Dear mies,
In June of 77´ Jorge Luis Borges dictate 7 conferences in 7 nights. Luckily for us, they were preserve in film, vinyl and book format. Today´s Text is an extract from the filming, where the master speaks without any editing [The book was edited by Borges himself, we prefer the spontaneity of the conference]. Few characters were as respected and loved by the whole country.. When Borges speaks, people listen..
The next text is from the fifth conference entitled, ¿What is Poetry? Here the master explains why there is a certain architecture that moves us. Just change the word´s poetry and literature for architecture ...
"I have been a professor of literature, of English literature in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, and I have tried to preside as far as possible [because we are in an age history and I myself am subject to my historical needs] I tried to preside as much as possible of the history of literature, when my students asked me for the bibliography I said: "I do not care about the bibliography", as Shakespeare did not know anything about the Shakespearian Bibliography, Johnson could not foresee the books that would be written about him, "why not study the texts directly and those texts like them or not, and if they do not like them, leave them, since the idea of compulsory reading is an absurd idea, it would be worth talking about obligatory happiness. "I believe that poetry is something that is felt, and if a story does not lead to the desire to know what happened next, leave it aside, I believe that literature is already rich enough to offer a worthy author of your attention today or worthy of your attention and that will read tomorrow!
I have taught So because I think that for everybody, the aesthetic fact is something so obvious, so immediate, so indefinable, as for example love, as for example the taste of a fruit, as for example the taste of water, as for example the flavor of the wine, like for example the plain and the sea. We feel poetry as we feel the closeness of a woman, or how we feel a mountain or how we feel a bay. "
Speechless..
