Movies for Architects: Moriyama san

Cuando escribimos los arquitectos, en el fondo, aunque no sea esa nuestra intención tratamos de defender el tipo de arquitectura que hacemos, o de exponer la que queremos hacer. No somos tanto un juez como un abogado. Hoy queremos compartir con ustedes una película que la sentimos cerca, como la arquitectura que nos gusta.

Dijo Barragán:

"En proporción alarmante han desaparecido en las publicaciones dedicadas a la arquitectura las palabras belleza, inspiración, embrujo, magia, sortilegio, encantamiento y también las de serenidad, silencio, intimidad y asombro. Todas ellas han encontrado amorosa acogida en mi alma, y si estoy lejos de pretender haberles hecho plena justicia en mi obra, no por eso han dejado de ser mi faro."1

Beka y Lemoine lo escucharon, y la respuesta fue "Moriyama San".

Moriyama san leyendo, Moriyama san durmiendo, Moriyama san regando las plantas, esto decidieron mostrar los autores. Moriyama limpia, Moriyama lee, Moriyama ríe, en fin, Moriyama vive. Hace poco leía un ensayo de T.S. Eliot, se titulaba "Función social de la poesía"2. El autor contaba que un buen poeta encuentra las palabras necesarias para expresar lo que el siente y los que compartimos ese sentimiento al leerlo, lo hacemos más consiente, nos termina enseñando algo sobre nosotros mismos.  

Beka y Lemoine, usaron imágenes por palabras para capturar los momentos poéticos del habitar. Moriyama remontando un panadero, cine mudo en la terraza, una inesperada excursión al templo, ¡Sake, risas y fuegos artificiales!  El ensayo continua..  "un gran poeta no es solo una persona más consciente que las demás, es también individualmente diferente de los demás y puede hacer que sus lectores compartan consciente mente nuevos sentimientos que hasta entonces no habían experimentado". Esto también es Moriyama San.

 Ver Moriyama, es ver la magia de la que hablaba Barragán, es una invitación a reflexionar sobre cómo vivimos. Embrujo diría el maestro, un poema para apropiarse diría Eliot. Entonces, los que llegamos hasta aquí, sentémonos en la terraza o en el patio, o en nuestro mejor sillón y disfrutemos la película como la arquitectura que nos gusta, reflexionemos sobre cómo vivimos, como sentimos y recordemos que la belleza de la arquitectura está también en vivirla.

MOVIES FOR ARCHITECTS: MORIYAMA SAN

When an architect write, at the back of his mind, if not as his ostensible purpose, is always trying to defend the kind of architecture he does, or to formulate the kind that he wants to do. We are not so much a judge as a lawyer. Today we want to share with you a special film, that we feel close to, like the architecture that moves us.

Luis Barragán once said:

"It is alarming that publications devoted to architecture have banished from their pages the words Beauty, Inspiration, Magic, Spellbound, Enchantment, as well as the concepts of Serenity, Silence, Intimacy and Amazement All these have nestled in my soul, and though I am fully aware that I have not done them complete justice in my work, they have never ceased to be my guiding lights." 1

Beka and Lemoine heard him, and the answer was "Moriyama San."

Mr. Moriyama reading, Mr. Moriyama sleeping, Mr. Moriyama watering the plants, that's what the authors decided to show. Moriyama cleans, Moriyama reads, Moriyama laughs, in essence, Moriyama lives. Recently, I read an essay by T.S. Eliot, entitled "Social function of poetry" 2. The author explain that a good poet, by expressing what other people think, he is also changing the feeling by making it more conscious, he makes people more aware of what they feel already, they end up learning something about themselves. 

Beka and Lemoine, capture the poetic moments of living by using images instead of words. Moriyama tracing a dandelion, silent movies on the terrace, an unexpected excursion to the temple, ¡Sake, laughter and fireworks! The essay continues ... " But he is not merely a more conscious person than the others; he is also individually different from other people, and from other poets too, and can make readers share consciously in new feelings which they had not experienced before. (...) discovers new variations of sensibility which can be appropriated by others".  This is also Moriyama San.

Watching Moriyama,  is a way of understanding the magic that claimed Barragán,  is an invitation to reflect on our interaction with architecture, on our way of living. Spellbound said the master, a poem which can be appropriated by others, said Eliot. So, for those still interested, go on and sit on the terrace, or in the patio, or on your most cozy armchair, and  enjoy the film as much as the architecture we like, reflect on how we live, how we sense. And remember, the beauty of architecture is also in living it.
