Mies on the Muppet Show

Tengo un recuerdo borroso, o quizás sea un sueño. Me acuerdo siempre de la noche que Mies fue al Show de los Muppets. Los que lo vieron se acordaran... La presentación de Kermit, Fozzie y sus chistes malos de arquitectos, "¿porque los arquitectos tienen semillas?... para tener buenas plantas, ¡waka waka!". Miss Piggy apurada llenando el escenario de molduras y Mies detrás arrancándolas, "menos es más miss Piggy, ¿ahora lo comprende?", Statler y Waldorf en el palco bromeando, "ni siquiera un arquitecto puede levantar este show, ¡Ha Ha Ha! " Hacia el final todos cantaban.. 

Me gusta pensar que esa noche, en Lake Shore Drive, las familias se reunieron para ver el show, que en el Seagram también. Que por un momento el mundo entero miraba la ABC, que fue una noche inolvidable, como la de Mark Hammil o la de Vincent Price.

Hace tiempo que deje de buscarlo, me basta con recordar.. Me acuerdo siempre de esa noche, la noche que Mies fue al show de los Muppets. Hoy sueño que llegue el día, el día en que los arquitectos sean amados y reconocidos por su comunidad.

MIES ON THE MUPPET SHOW

I have a memory, or was it a dream? I always remember the night that Mies went to The Muppet Show. Some might recall... Kermit’s presentation, "It´s the Muppet Show, with our very special guest star, Mr. Mies van der Rohe! Yaaay!" - audience shouting -, Fozzie Bear bad jokes about architects, “why are architects the best companions? .. Because they make great plans, waka waka”, Miss Piggy in a rampage, filling the stage with all sorts of moldings, and Mies behind her desperately throwing them away, “less is more Miss Piggy!, now you get it?”, Statler and Waldorf in the balcony, teasing “not even an architect can raise this show, Ha Ha Ha”..

I wonder if that night, in Lake Shore Drive, families gathered to watch the show. If all those late night workers on the Seagram Building had their TV´s on. I like to imagine, that for a brief moment, the whole wide world was watching ABC, that it was a night to remember, that people talk for weeks, that Mies was as memorable as Mark Hammil or Vincent Price..

Anyway, I always remember that night, the night that Mies went to the Muppet Show. The time will come, when architects will be loved and recognized by their community.
